so this list is to wrk in conjuction
with my post-apoc reading list. these bks are all non-fic. how to can
foods, survive outside, filter water, store food, garden, find fuel,
build a retreat, home security, home medicine. etc. i'm collecting it
all.
and yes, i will eventually aquire a
very nice selection of all of these : ) but only the good ones.
if i havent read it yet, that means i
don't know whether/no it's good
they will be divided by topic. many of
these i got off of survivalblog
Some terminology to know:
*BOB: bug-out bag: the bag you have
packed so you can grab it and go if you need to flee, has basic
surival stuff in it
*WTSHTF: when the shit hits the fan
* GOOD: get out of dodge: meaning you
have to flee the area youre in due to a disaster of any kind, they
mainly mean civil unrest or danger from nukes/emps whatnot
*EMP: electromagnetic pulse: very
dangerous bombs that hit high in the atmosphere and cause all
electric/techo stuff to be forever unuseable, fries them. Very real.
Any country that knows anything about nukes could do it. It could
plunge this country into the stoneage real fast. read "one
second after" on my apoc fiction bk list. it's a what if book.
very real. the pentagon read it.
* YOYO: youre on your own
my key:
O = own it
B = beyond basics, way too specific for
most people's needs - doesn't mean it's not good though
A = advise buying, i've read them and
they are awesome books
if there isn't an O next to it, i don't
have it and can't give you my real opinon on it. if it has a B next
to it i happen to know it's beyond the basics, just bc it doesn't
have a B doesn't mean it's not beyond basics. see very bottom for
books i know are "should haves"

survivalist must haves (not in order):
1. how to survive the end of the world
as we know it: tactics, techniques and technologies for uncertain
times by james wesley rawles----- his followers on survivalblog.com
call themselves rawlesians if that says anything. he's crazy good at
what he does, and crazy prepared/paranoid. really respect the dude,
even if some of his stuff I wouldn't do.
2. - sas survival handbook by john
"lofty" wiseman-----this book is put out by a former
trainer for the british special air services, this is what navy seals
train on
3. the complete plan for escaping a
catastrophic disaster before it's too late by scott b.
williams-----his i've heard is more for the average person than
rawlesians and he also has followers, williamians
4. where there is no doctor: a village health care handbook by jane maxwell: it covers everything -----diseases, fevers, setting limbs, the importance of hygiene, symptoms, warning signs. this book is used by the peace corps and the united nations as well as village healthcare workers around the world. it is the leading book in its field.
